IHS: 2016 global PV installed capacity will grow by 17%
Business information services provider IHS recently estimated annual installed capacity of the global PV market in 2016 will grow 17 percent to 67 MW (GW). Is expected to total global installed capacity will exceed 300GW. China, the United States and Japan will dominate the tide of global installed capacity, a total of 65% of the world's total installed capacity.
Ash Sharma IHS Technology Senior Director of Power and Energy said the policy announced by the three markets show that the installed capacity in 2017 is likely to decline or slow growth. Policy changes led to growth in 2017, global installed capacity of only four percentage points mainly due to the increase.
Although China remains the world leader in battery capacity, but in 2016 the expansion of domestic growth rate of only 12.9%. The new cell production in other regions can be faster expansion, especially in Southeast Asia (65%) and India (80%). IHS chief solar analyst EdurneZoco said, "This expansion is mainly due to the Chinese mainland and Taiwan's production of photovoltaic cells suffered in the US and European markets due to the anti-dumping sanctions."
IHS expects, due to demand uncertainty, and also that new capacity, pressure on component prices in the second half of 2016 will be further intensified. The average selling price is expected to continue to decline assembly in 2017, an 8% decline to $ 0.51 / W.
Global energy storage will show rapid development trend, in 2016 the global cumulative installed capacity is expected to exceed 2GW. IHS senior analyst solar energy and energy storage Isabella Ni said: "The industry chain of all cost components will decline in the coming years to pull the storage product in a more favorable price to enter the market more."
IHS expects, in the United States, Japan and Germany led, from 2016 to 2020, the number of countries developing energy storage projects will continue to grow. From a global point of view, various types of energy storage applications installed during this period will be more than 15GW.
Chinese suppliers in the global PV inverter industry more competitive. "By 2015, although Germany's SMA successfully defended the sales champion, but two Chinese Huawei and sun power suppliers have to rely on booming Chinese market accounted for global shipments of the first two." IHS PV Inverter senior analyst and balance system FrankXie representation.
Global PV inverter sales in 2016 will grow by 2 percent to $ 7 billion. But with an increase in the inverter shipments, average selling prices will drop significantly, resulting in sales growth has been greatly weakened.
Inverter type of product will vary significantly. IHS expects, thanks to substantial growth in China and the United States and other major commercial PV systems PV market installed capacity, as of 2019, the three-phase power inverter low (less than 99KW) will account for one third of global shipments . Meanwhile, the three-phase high power inverter (including standard central inverters and inverter container) will continue to dominate the market. This year, 1500V inverter once been shown to help improve power plant benefit, the market share will increase, will also be applied in more markets.
